Thanks for taking the time to visit Our JustGiving page.
We are setting ourselves a few challenges as a family this year, not just for a physical health but for our mental health and it’s good to have a focus to get us through those utterly heartbreaking time.
Our big major test of endurance will take place on June 22nd where we will take part in the Pilgrims Challenge walking just over 34 miles in a day across the North downs from Wye to Canterbury then finishing in our home town of Dover
Dad was diagnosed with cancer May 2018 and started straight away a course of radiotherapy and then chemotherapy which he took very well. Unfortunately in November he caught a chest infection and the next couple of months took their toll and he sadly passed away quite suddenly on the 16th January 2019.
Dad never wanted to know his prognosis, he just wanted to fight the battle and always had the attitude he was going to beat it. Dad spent his last couple of weeks under the care of the team at The Pilgrims Hospice in Canterbury and they were so wonderful. They made dad feel at ease and kept him comfortable yet dignified and it gave us the opportunity to spend the time as a family and creating memories rather than having to be carers. Everyone who works at The Pilgrims Hospice are invaluable and their support has carried on after the death of Dad as they offer bereavement counselling to us to help through the grieving.
We are hoping to raise money for Pilgrims Hospice in memory of Dad as a thank you to all the work they do.
The Pilgrims Hospice are an independent charity that provides service free of charge and to do this they rely heavily on the support and generosity of the community, it currently costs 14 million a year to run their full range of services.
They recieve an annual NHS contribution of 23% which is revised each year, the remaining costs have to be generated through fundraising and donations ❤️
